Pine Island

Matlacha ~ Filled with colorful and charming shops
Bokeelia has an Old Florida feel
Pine Island
A charming little island just North of Sanibel Island and Fort Myers on the beautiful
East Coast of Florida. If you are a back roads traveler like myself you will enjoy the Old Florida
feel along Burnt Store Road (765), off of US 4, AKA (Tamiami Trail).
This scenic road will help set the tone for the adventure that lies ahead.

Matlacha ~Describing it as unique would be an understatement.  Be sure to visit the Lovegrove Shop. It is quite possibly like nothing you have every encountered. You will browse through the shop and outdoor garden with wide eyed wonderment and disbelief of the creativity you see before you. No exaggeration here! Being a photographer I would post a million photos of this place alone if only I could.  No photos allowed, so you will have to trust me and go see for yourself!
You will not be disappointed!

The Lovegrove Shop

Painted Coconut "Easter Eggs"
There is always something charming to see on Pine Island.

The Cayo Costa Ferry that takes you on a day trip or overnight camping
to Cayo Costa State Park.  Beautiful white sand beaches for the
beach goers, hiking trailsand fishing if you so desire.

Osprey and their plentiful nests abound. Dolphin, and if you are lucky enough, Manatee are always a treat to see.  It's also a haven for fisherman and the ever popular Cayo Costa Ferry Cruise.  You can camp on Cayo Costa State Park, or just go for the day aboard the Tropic Star.  It is a popular destination for beach goers since Pine Island has no true beach access.

There are plenty of local eateries to satisfy your palate. A few favorites are

•"The Perfect Cup"

Excellent coffee selections, large portions for both brunch and lunch! Yes you will leave very full!

 •Bert's Bar and Grill

Lively with local music and beautiful views of Pine Island Sound. Try the Fish & Chips

•  Ye Olde Fish House and Marina

The locals won't mind if you join them at this unique little eatery.  The Pineapple Coconut Slaw and Hush Puppies are real favorites. Did I mention the GREAT Live music on the waterfront patio?

Packing a lunch is always a fun idea so you can explore the island without a timeline. If you are lucky enough to have a boat even better. Cruising the waterways with a seaside snack is a delightful way to enjoy the flavor of the island. There is evidence of the simple and relaxed life at every turn.
Comfortable and cozy accommodations are available on each end of the island or camping on Cayo Costa. Something for everyone. Jug Creek Cottages, a State run park, are a popular option for the fisherman or those just looking for a good nights rest with the intention of spending more time outside exploring rather than inside behind closed walls. There are also more elegant accommodations on Bokeelia Island and St James City.
